Police are searching for a man suspected of stealing a family’s bag at Gatwick Airport, with newly released video showing an individual brazenly wheeling away a suitcase.
CCTV footage captures the incident at the South Terminal on December 12, where the suspect allegedly made off with Apple electronics, laptops, house keys, a wallet, Sony headphones, and scuba diving equipment, according to Sussex Police.
“It is believed that the thief boarded a bus to Crawley and later attempted to use the stolen bank cards in the Langley Green area,” the police said, adding that the family had departed on a long haul flight for their holiday.
The man is described as being aged in his 30s with a beard, wearing a dark blue jacket, blue jeans, black trainers, and a dark or brown coloured baseball cap.
Snorkels and a wetsuit were also taken from the bags, which were nabbed between 11.35am and 11.50am on December 12.
Footage shows a man looking calm and relaxed as he wheels the bags through the airport and into a lift. He appears to be carrying several items of luggage, with multiple bags over his shoulders.
Inspector Mark Robinson said: “We are investigating a report of theft of luggage from the terminal area at London Gatwick while the victim was distracted.
“This was distressing for the victim, who was with his young family at the time and seeking to embark on a holiday ahead of a busy festive period.
“We are issuing CCTV images of a man we wish to speak with in connection with our enquiries, anyone who can identify him is asked to come forward.”
