Later on Sunday, Crystal Palace moved six points clear of the relegation zone by coming from behind to beat Southampton 2-1. Fulham, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at home.
Chelsea can look to respond on Monday when they travel to the struggling Ipswich, while Manchester United will look to end their crisis when they host Newcastle.
Arsenal, ten points off the leaders, round off action on New Year’s Day when they make the short trip to Brentford.
