‘Remarkable achievement’ as local school named one of best in Wales

A Pembrokeshire school has been named as one of the top five schools is Wales in a guide that is widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the country’s top schools.

Ysgol Bro Preseli was announced the fifth best state school in Wales in the Sunday Times Parent Power list, published earlier this month.

Recognised as the definitive ranking of the UK’s top state and independent schools, the guide includes a fully searchable national database of over 2,000 schools by name, local authority, town and postcode.

As well as an assessment of all academic results on a school-by-school basis, Parent Power enables parents to compare the performance of a given school with other schools in the same town, local authority or nationally.

Ysgol Bro Preseli in Crymych was listed as the fifth best state school in Wales in the guide.

The school said it was proud to receive the ‘prestigious accolade that celebrates the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the school community’.

“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the collective effort of our staff, pupils, parents, guardians, and members of the governing body,” said head teacher Rhonwen Morris.

“It reflects the school’s unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and personally.”

Chair of Governors, Carwyn James added:

At Ysgol Bro Preseli, there is no secret to our success. Our achievements are built on a foundation of hard work, dedication, and a deep understanding of each individual pupil.

“This ensures that every pupil is supported to reach their full potential. We are incredibly proud of our school community and this recognition serves as further motivation to continue striving for excellence.”

Both Mrs Morris and Mr Thomas said that the accolade from The Sunday Times’ Parent Power highlighted not only the school’s outstanding academic results but also its commitment to nurturing a positive and inclusive learning environment.

“As a cornerstone of the local community and north east Pembrokeshire, Ysgol Bro Preseli continues to lead the way in delivering high-quality education, ensuring that every student leaves equipped for success in their future endeavours,” they said.

“Our motto ‘Gwreiddiau a Gorwelion’ (roots and horizons) summarises our aim of ensuring that all pupils are prepared for life from the time they nurture their academic and personal roots to the time they leave school and head for their own personal horizons.”

Ysgol Bro Preseli is also celebrating its third year as a National Association for Able Children in Education (NACE) accredited school.

The award is given in recognition of school-wide commitment to high-quality provision for more able and talented learners, within the context of challenge for all.

NACE CEO Rob Lightfoot said: “Ysgol Bro Preseli has worked hard to attain the NACE Challenge Award for a third time. It has continued to display a thorough commitment to developing an effective environment in which all learners are challenged and supported to reach their full potential.”
