Gavin & Stacey and Strictly Come Dancing might seem like two very different shows but they came together in a cross over we never knew we needed for the 2024 live final of the dancing competition. On Saturday, December 14 a very special Gavin & Stacey character had a minor role in Strictly.
Ruth Jones, who co-wrote Gavin & Stacey and plays Nessa in the show, appeared on Strictly Come Dancing to read out the terms and conditions. As soon as she emerged from the glitter tinsel curtain she sassed host Claudia Winkleman about her hair.
In total character, Ruth said to Claud: “I see you are copying my hair do,” and Claudia duly accepted that she was. Nessa then went on to say “tidy” and “enough of the chit chat” as she had a job to do.

As she had the studio in stitches by telling the celeb and pro dancers off for chopsing so much, one of the gang shouted:” what’s occurin'” and she responded “do you think I don’t hear that every day of my life?”
‘Copying my hairstyle”
Ruth as Nessa then went on to read out the T&Cs in her Barry-style before a full trailer for the new episode, which will air on Christmas day, was shown.
Scenes from the new episode, which will air on December 25, saw Gavin and Stacey plan a weekend away with Smithy and the rest of the gang.
Set to Abba’s Mamma Mia, the action shows a huge gettogether in Billerricay and Uncle Bryn looking worse for wear. There’s also discussion about the infamous fishing trip.

The official synopsis reads: “It’s five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened in those five years.” However, as well as finding out Smithy’s long-awaited answer, fans will be excited to hear that they might finally learn what happened on Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) and Jason West’s (Robert Wilfort) mysterious fishing trip. The fishing trip was first brought up in series one back in 2007 and has been a running joke in the sitcom ever since.
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale will air on Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
