Around 2pm on Tuesday, December 17, multiple businesses in the centre of Newport’s shopping scene were briefly affected by a power cut in the area.
One of these businesses was the Sainsbury’s Local on John Frost Square, next door to KFC and Pure Gym.
According to pictures captured at the time, the supermarket giant was forced to close its doors at the branch “until further notice” while the issue was resolved.
It is understood from a source that while Sainsbury’s was impacted by the power cut, the Kingsway shopping centre in which it is located escaped any form of power disruption.
Other businesses affected included the Mercure Hotel, Toys R Us, Gallery 57 and Triple Two Coffee.
The power cut was only brief, with most businesses reporting that power had returned within around 20 minutes.
