Sam Thompson has spoken about his split from Zara McDermott for the first time, admitting he was “on the edge” over the Christmas period.
The Made In Chelsea star, 32, and Love Island alum, 28, parted ways last month after five years together.
Thompson addressed their split in his Staying Relevant podcast with Pete Wicks, which aired on Monday.
He said he’s been “going through some stuff” during a “tough month” and blasted Wicks, 37, for going “off-radar” and not replying to his messages over the festive period.
Strictly star Wicks opened the episode by asking Thompson: “What’s been going on?”
“It was tough. It’s been a tough month. A real tough month,” Thompson admitted.

Wicks confessed he hadn’t spoken to his best friend properly for a while, saying: “I went off radar for a couple of weeks, I put my phone in a drawer and disappeared.’
“I’ve been going through some stuff Pete and I called you 15 times,” Thompson joked.
“I did feel bad, I went off-radar and I didn’t realise you were effectively on the edge over Christmas,” Wicks replied.
“It didn’t feel right! Pete was in a really nice retreat somewhere in the world, having a great time, sitting in a hot tub being really wholesome,” Thompson raged.
Wicks is rumoured to have spent Christmas and New Year with Maura Higgins, with the pair sharing the same snaps from a country pub and Higgins later revealing she’d checked into a luxurious spa.
Wicks added that when he did eventually phone Thompson, “my favourite part was I asked Sam how was your Christmas and he said, ‘It was like being in a Christmas tomb. I’ve been sat in the house surrounded by Christmas stuff and I don’t feel Christmasy.’
“I had calls from our PR, our team, everyone saying you had non stop spoken to them over the Christmas period and said please can you call him, please can you call him.
“So within 30 seconds after he’d gone through his stuff we just moved on and he started laughing, sometimes what you need is someone not to enable your depression.”
Hours earlier, McDermott appeared to confirm that she had moved out of the west London home she shared with Thompson.
The TV personality shared a TikTok of her busy day, which showed her getting ready in her new home.
Thompson and McDermott’s split was revealed by MailOnline last month, with sources claiming the break-up wasn’t down to a “scandal or fallout.”
“Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other,” the insider said.
“But after a tough year of working hard at their romance, they have split and will be focusing on their individual careers going forward into 2025.
“There has been no scandal or fallout between them, it’s just the result of a difficult year, where they both had to spend a lot of time focused on their own projects.”
