School ‘devastated’ after death of teacher found stabbed in Carshalton home

A school in Epsom has said it is ‘devastated’ after one of its teachers was found fatally stabbed at a home in Carshalton.

Rosebery School in White Horse Drive has dedicated a remembrance post on its website to Gemma Devonish.

It reads: “The entire Rosebery community is devastated by the sudden and unexpected death of Miss Gemma Devonish.

The 42-year-old died at the scene (Image: Metropolitan Police) “Our thoughts are with Gemma’s mother and sister, extended family and friends, at this deeply distressing time.”

It comes as a murder investigation has been launched after the 42-year-old was found critically injured at an address in Nutfield Close.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service were called at 10.30am on December 19 with reports of the incident.

She died at the scene a short while later.

As of today (December 20) a man aged 38 has been arrested on suspicion of murder, with police confirming they are not seeking anyone else in connection.

The pair are said to have been known to each other.
