Schools shut again in Wales due to freezing weather

Scores of schools have been shut on Friday, January 10 in Wales due to the persistent icy conditions. A yellow warning for ice remains active until 10am, posing driving hazards due to treacherous roads.

The Met Office has provided insights and said there could be as much as 2-4cm of snow in some areas. The warning reads: “Scattered wintry showers on Thursday evening will slowly fade overnight, leading to the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing.

“Isolated snow accumulations of 2-4 cm will be possible, more especially in Wales on hills above 150m elevation.” Residents are advised to be cautious during these sub-zero temperatures, with expectations of more biting cold today. As a result, some schools in north Wales have been affected by closures or partial closures, reports North Wales Live. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.
