Seven people arrested after fatal stabbing of 18-year-old in Derbyshire

Seven people have been arrested after a murder investigation was launched into the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old man in Derbyshire, police said.

East Midlands ambulance service contacted police at 8.20pm on Saturday to report that a man had been stabbed on Rose Avenue in the town of Ilkeston.

Arriving at the scene, officers found an 18-year-old man on the road with a stab wound. Emergency services tended to the man but he was pronounced dead on nearby Heanor Road, Derbyshire police said on Sunday.

His family have been informed and they are being assisted by specially trained officers. The name of the man has not been disclosed.

Four 17-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder, the force added.

A 52-year-old man, 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All of the suspects remain in custody.

The murder investigation is being led by the East Midlands special operations unit.

Police have appealed for any CCTV or doorbell footage and any dashcam footage between 7pm and 9pm in the areas of Heanor Road, Rose Avenue, Summerfields Way, Kedleston Drive and Peveril Drive.

DCI Claudia Musson from the East Midlands special operations unit, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are in the very early stages of the investigation and we are treating it as an isolated incident.

“We are keen for anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency to assist with the inquiry into the death of this young man.”

A Major Incident Public Portal has also been set up which can be used to pass information and submit footage online.

Multiple police vehicles remained at the scene on Sunday morning with a number of roads cordoned off around Heanor Road.
