Taylor Swift fans spot star’s eerie parallel with Elton John following Disney+ documentary

Legendary singer Elton John has bared his heart and soul in his new Disney+ documentary Never Too Late and fans can’t get enough of it.

The one-off follows the icon as he goes on his last tour, as well as sharing insight into his life from the height of his career, his unfortunate upbringing to his battle with addiction.

Interestingly, a Taylor Swift fan has taken to Reddit to draw parallels between her career and Elton’s after watching the documentary. They penned: “I watched Elton John’s new documentary Never Too Late (released on Taylor’s birthday, fittingly), and I couldn’t stop seeing parallels between his story and hers.

“We’ve talked about the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road parallel but it seems as though their careers and trajectories are mirrors. I thought I’d share the ones I noticed and see if you caught anything too.”

The fan in question pointed out that both the singers sing about how fame and success can feel isolating, as well as cages and freedom being a common thread in their music. Another similarity pointed out is that Elton’s Dodger Stadium was a “defining cultural moment” which Taylor’s Eras Tour is doing for a new generation.

The viewer continued: “One of the most striking parallels is how both artists have grappled with identity and authenticity. Elton speaks in the film about feeling like an outsider for much of his life, someone who didn’t belong, especially as it came to his sexuality. It was a big thing when he came out as bi. It did negatively impact his career, he said, but it also set him free.

“That deeply relates to a few of Taylors Songs we know that. For Elton, Bad Side of the Moon and Rocket Man emphasize this—being ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’ on Earth but finding freedom in space. Taylor’s Midnights, Down Bad, etc, touches on similar feelings.

“In Anti-Hero, we see the dual Taylors: the star and the self. This struggle feels so connected to Elton’s experience of being Elton John the icon, while rarely showing his true self offstage,” they concluded.

Fans were quick to take to the comment section as one wrote: “There were a lot of parallels to be drawn between Elton’s words and everything Taylor’s admitted about the toll of fame through her lyrics.

“The moments when he talked about having no one to share all of it with hit hard. It reminded me of Taylor talking about being at the top of her game in Miss Americana and having no one she could share those moments with. At least not in a public way.”

Another Reddit user penned: “I love Elton John and as someone who has always been a fan of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” watching Taylor perhaps start down that road herself has been thrilling.”

While a third added: “I haven’t watched it yet, but when watching the preview last night, I immediately thought of Taylor.”
