A school has been rated “outstanding” in all areas following a visit from Ofsted inspectors.
St Olave’s and St Saviour’s Grammar School in Goddington Lane, Orpington, was given the rating following the inspection on November 5 and 6.
The Church of England grammar school is attended by 1,086 pupils aged 11 to 18, including 446 in the sixth form.
Inspectors found “the school’s vision of ‘Happiness – Success – Community’ is embedded in daily activities.”
They said: “A highly ambitious curriculum enables exceptional progress for all students, including those with SEND.”
“Pupils consistently achieve very high results in national tests, excelling across subjects.”
“Teachers demonstrate strong subject knowledge, particularly in the sixth form, ensuring concepts are deeply understood and retained.”
“Students exhibit high levels of motivation, respect, and resilience in lessons and across the school.”
“Sixth-form students act as mentors and role models for younger peers.”
“Pupils participate in activities like diversity week, political awareness week, and external competitions (e.g., robotics and engineering).”
“Students feel safe and supported, benefiting from a well-being garden, practitioner, and even a therapy dog.”
“The school fosters a culture of acceptance and inclusion, which students and parents praised highly.”
“Leaders share an ambitious and caring vision, fostering a cooperative culture among staff.”
“Sixth-form students contribute through leadership roles in the house system, charity events, and volunteering.”
“Pupils receive comprehensive career advice and support, leading to placements at prestigious universities, medical schools, and apprenticeships.”
“The school has robust safeguarding measures in place, ensuring a positive culture prioritising student welfare.”
A parent described the school as “a special place, quite unique.”
A student highlighted the school’s inclusive atmosphere, saying: “There is a culture of acceptance and respect.”
The report concluded: “St Olave’s and St Saviour’s Grammar School delivers an exceptional all-round education, fostering high academic performance, exemplary behaviour, and a supportive, inclusive environment for all students.”
The school was also rated “outstanding” in its previous inspection in March 2014 and an urgent inspection in 2019.
