Several eateries in Sutton have won awards this year for their food quality and atmosphere.
Awards included the Good Food Awards, The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards, and the CAMRA Awards.
The Good Food Awards recognises the inside atmosphere of restaurants as well as their food quality.
The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards recognises excellence in the restaurant and takeaway industry.
The CAMRA Awards searches for pubs that serve quality real ale.
Below are all the Sutton eateries that won awards in 2024.
LA Café
LA Café is a multi-award-winning and possibly the most popular café in the Sutton, according to Google reviews.
LA Café won a Gold Seal in the Good Food Awards, marking the third time it has been featured on the list.
LA Café has received numerous awards, including the Good Food Awards 2023 and 2024, Time and Leisure Food and Culture Awards 2024, Restaurant Guru’s Recommended Café, and Best Coffeehouse in Carshalton.
The owner Ankur Baria said: “What’s unique about LA Café is that we produce most of the stuff in-house.
“Everything we do buy from outside is from the top of quality because we have connected with a market of people who understand quality.
“We don’t buy anything substandard or cheap.
“We make sure anything we buy outside, whether beef or tomatoes, is of the highest quality, sourced from the right places.”
This year, the café received 1,000 5-star reviews on Google.
The Good Food Awards website says: “Our Good Food Awards recognise the hard-working teams who strive for excellence within their field.
“Chosen for their food quality, service and value, our prestigious Blue Ribbon is bestowed upon those with high customer ratings/votes and is known as – the Blue Ribbon for Delicious Dishes.”
“Chosen for their food quality, service and value, our highly revered Gold Seal, is bestowed upon those achieving consistently high customer ratings/votes over three years, making our Gold Seal a marque of distinction.”
LA Cafe is open between 6.30am and 4pm on weekdays, and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays.
Mohini Balti House
Mohini Balti House is an Indian takeaway on 15A Gordon Road.
Mohini Balti House won crowned the Surrey Takeaway of the Year in the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards.
According to the takeaway, they “use only the freshest and highest quality ingredients to ensure that each dish is packed with flavour and authenticity.”
The owners originally ran a restaurant in Beddington Lane, Croydon, from 1989 before moving to the venture near Carshalton Beeches train station.
Mohini Balti House serves a variety of dishes including tandoori dishes, Mohini baltis, biryani, classic dishes, thali dishes, and more.
The takeaway also won Regional Takeaway of the Year in 2023.
The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards search for the best restaurant or takeaway in different categories and bring them together for cook-offs to find the ultimate UK Asian restaurant or takeaway.
One happy reviewer said: “I have just moved to the area and heard great reviews about Mohini.
“I must say… it was the best curry I’ve had in years!
“Tasty, flavoursome, not oily and great quality.
“Plus, the wet towels was a nice touch.
“Very polite delivery man, as well as great telephone service.

Mohini Balti House is open every day from 5pm to 10.30pm.
Colombo Kitchen
Colombo Kitchen on 25-27 Central Road was named a Blue Ribbon winner in the Good Food Awards 2024/25.
This Sri Lankan restaurant in Worcester Park first opened in 2019, and has two branches, one in Worcester Park and one in Putney which opened this year.
Colombo Kitchen has already won several awards, including the National Chef of the Year 2024 in the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards.
The menu has been created by Head Chef Sylvia Perera, and it contains recipes which have been passed down the generations of her family.
A statement on their website states: “Each dish on the menu is mastered to perfection using local, traditional methods and exotic, aromatic ingredients from Sri Lanka, combined with a modern presentation.
“They are paired with our signature cocktails to deliver you the diverse flavours of Sri Lanka.”
Colombo Kitchen is open from 5pm to 11pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 12pm to 11pm on weekends.
The Hope
The Hope pub on 48 West Street, was named the Sutton Pub of the Year in the Campaign for Real Ale Awards.
This was the seventh time in the last 13 years that The Hope have was named in the CAMRA list.
One reviewer said: “As far as beer goes, this place cannot be beaten.
“It always has a superb selection of ales and something for everyone, no matter what your taste.
“Its range of snacks is outstanding, and overall the quality of the food gets better every time we eat there.
“Believe me when I say this food is the real deal, all bang on point, flavour and spice level spot on.”
A spokesperson for CAMRA said: “We do this by supporting and encouraging the beer and pubs trade by running beer festivals, lobbying the Government for change, running numerous awards and developing bespoke pub finders and guides.
“There’s plenty for everyone, whether you’re a dedicated campaigner, a beer connoisseur looking to learn more about beer or just want to meet up with friends in your local.
