A tree-mendous festival of fabulous firs led up to the switch on of the Christmas lights in Britain’s smallest City.
St Davids Christmas Tree Association’s twentieth festival of Christmas trees saw an imaginative array of trees adorn City Hall as well as a stunning selection of wreaths.
(Image: St Davids Christmas Tree Association) The festival was held in the run up to the St Davids tree lighting ceremony which took place on the Saturday evening.
The lights were switched on by the Mayor Bira Sehmi, there were readings by the head boy and girls of Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi.
(Image: St Davids Christmas Tree Association) There was also a reading from Reverend William Owen and a blessing from the Dean of the Cathedral Dr Sarah Rowlands Jones.
The ceremony on the Cross Square was led by Sub Dean of the Cathedral Revd Canon Leigh Richardson. There was also singing from the pupils of Non Campus of Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi which was lead by Luke Spencer.
(Image: St Davids Christmas Tree Association) Following the announcement of the winners of the Christmas wreaths, Santa arrived in St David’s on his sleigh. All the children in the parish visited him in his grotto in the Memorial Hall where each child received a gift.
(Image: St Davids Christmas Tree Association) The winning trees were Wyncliffe Childcare in the children’s section and Menevia WI in the adult’s section.
(Image: St Davids Christmas Tree Association) Coming second and third in the children’s section were Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi and St Davids Brownies.
In the adults’ section St Davids RNLI came second and The Bench ice cream parlour third.
The winning wreath was created by st St Davids Coffee & Chat with Katie Bolger coming second and Oriel y Parc coming third.
“The Festival of Christmas Tree committee would like to thank everyone who helped over the three-day event, especially to the groups and individuals who enters into the competition,” said organiser Bethan Thomas Price.
“This year was our 20th year and each year they come up with different ideas and themes, they were all outstanding.
“We would also like to thank all who helped on the Saturday night switch on and especially the members of St Davids Penknife Club who were marshals for the evening and also organised the safe arrival of Santa to St Davids.”
