Transport for London confirms when Tube and buses will run over Christmas and new year

Transport for London has confirmed its Christmas and new year timetables, which will mean some disruption for a week and a half.

Parts of the Tube and Overground network will be on a reduced service because of planned works, and mainline services from Paddington and Liverpool Street are also affected. However, extra trains have been put on for New Year’s Eve.

In addition, the congestion charge will not operate from December 25 to January 1 while the ultra low emission zone (Ulez) will be in action for all but Christmas Day.

Claire Mann, Transport for London’s chief operating officer, said: “This festive period we are once again excited to help Londoners and visitors experience all the entertainment, culture, bars and restaurants and shops that the capital has to offer. TfL’s services are the best way to easily and safely get around the city.

“The majority of the transport network will continue to operate over the festive period, ensuring that all customers can travel across London in affordable and green ways. We ask that customers check before they travel as planned works are taking place.”

Here is the full breakdown of the changes to services.

The DLR will be on a special service on some days (PA)

Monday December 23:

  • DLR: special service, no service from Beckton to Prince Regent and Bank to Shadwell

  • Elizabeth line: normal service

  • London Buses: normal service

  • London Overground: normal service on most lines, with closures on Mildmay line westbound after 11.45pm.

  • London Trams: Saturday service

  • London Underground: normal service on all lines

Tuesday December 24:

  • DLR: special service ending at 10.30pm, no service from Bank to Shadwell

  • Elizabeth line: normal service in the morning, Saturday service in the afternoon

  • London Buses: weekday service on all-day routes, no night or 24-hour services

  • London Trams: Saturday service

  • London Overground: normal service ending at 9.30pm

  • London Underground: Saturday service until 8pm, then reduced service levels

Wednesday December 25:

Thursday December 26:

  • Congestion Charge zone: not in operation

  • DLR: special service starting at 8.30am, no service from Bank to Shadwell

  • Elizabeth line: no service

  • London Buses: Sunday service on all-day routes with Sunday night service into Friday morning

  • London Trams: Sunday service

  • London Overground: reduced service on some lines, no service on others

  • London Underground: reduced Sunday service on all lines

Friday December 27:

  • Congestion Charge zone: not in operation

  • DLR: special service, no service from Bank to Shadwell

  • Elizabeth line: reduced service on some sections

  • London Buses: Saturday service on all-day routes, Sunday night service on night and 24-hour routes

  • London Overground: normal service on most lines, Saturday service on some lines, no service on others

  • London Trams: Saturday service

  • London Underground: Saturday service on all lines, reduced service on Waterloo & City line, no District line service to Kensington Olympia

Saturday December 28:

  • Congestion Charge zone: not in operation

  • DLR: Special service, no service from Bank to Shadwell

Tuesday December 31:

  • London Buses: Saturday service with special overnight service on some routes

  • London Trams: Saturday service with special overnight service

  • London Overground: normal service during the day with special overnight service on some lines, Saturday service on some lines, no service on others, Liverpool Street station closed

  • London Underground: reduced Saturday service with night Tube on all lines, reduced service on Waterloo & City line, no District line service to Kensington Olympia

Wednesday January 1 (2025):
