Two young girls hit by Transit van in city centre crash

TWO young girls are in hospital following a crash on Friday evening.

Gwent Police were called to the scene of a crash on Bridge Street in Newport at around 7.45pm on Friday, December 13.

Officers attended along with the Welsh Ambulance Service and Welsh Air Ambulance.

Two 12-year-old girls who were pedestrians had been involved in the incident with a blue Transit van.

The girls were taken to hospital for further treatment but their injuries are not thought to be life changing or life threatening.

The driver will be requested to attend an interview with police.

The full statement from Gwent Police reads: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on Bridge Street, Newport at around 7.45pm on Friday 13 December.

“Officers attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service and the Welsh Air Ambulance.

“The collision involved a blue Transit van and two pedestrians.

“The pedestrians, two 12-year-old girls, were taken to hospital for treatment while the driver of the van reportedly left the scene but has since been identified.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us quoting log reference 2400412275.”
