Tyson Fury’s wife Paris says she lied to her husband about her miscarriage and told her that ‘high blood pressure’ was the reason why she couldn’t fly out to support him in his first fight against Oleksandr Usyk earlier this year.
As the ‘Gypsy King’ prepared for his showdown with Usyk in Riyadh in May, his 35-year-old wife was at home in Morecambe, six months pregnant with their eighth child. However, just a day before the fight, Paris was told during a scan that their unborn child had no heartbeat.
Fury would go on to suffer the first defeat of his professional career, as Usyk triumphed via split decision and became the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis nearly 25 years earlier.

But in the build-up, Paris had to decide between losing a child by herself or telling her husband what had happened and potentially derailing his months of preparations for the biggest fight of his career at the last minute. Heartbreakingly, she chose to lie to him, telling him that she was unable to fly out to Saudi Arabia due to ‘high blood pressure’
“I had to make the decision, do I tell him?,” she told the Mirror. “And I came to the conclusion that whatever was happening with me, I couldn’t change it. But I could change dramatically what was happening in his life.
“I made up a lie that I had high blood pressure. It was the only thing I could think of that would stop me from flying without having to give him the terrible news.”

Despite his wife’s lie, Fury later admitted he “knew there was a problem” with the pregnancy when Paris failed to show, telling reporters after the fight: “I said to my brother, ‘She’s lost that baby’. She never told me she had lost the baby, but I knew.” He would later have the news confirmed by his wife after he returned to the UK following his defeat to Usyk.
Reflecting on the “traumatic” moment she learnt that she had lost her child, Paris said: “The sonographer said to me, ‘I’m really sorry, Paris, there’s no heartbeat.’ I jumped up, started to cry, and said, ‘No, hold on, hold on. No, no, wait,’ and went all frantic”
“At the time it feels like your world is ripped to pieces. But I know everyone can get through it. And what is so traumatic one day, becomes a memory. You know, you had that little piece of life, even if it’s such a short time. Mentally I’m at ease with what went on. Physically, I’m OK.”
Having insisted that she would not miss another of Fury’s fights, Paris is now set to be in Riyadh on Saturday night to support her husband in his bid for revenge against the Ukrainian.
“I said after the last fight, I’d never miss another one,” she said. “I think there was just too much going on in his head last time. Yeah, I think 100% he’ll be coming home with the belt.”
