Universal Credit, State Pension, PIP and more to be paid tomorrow by DWP

Benefit payments from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) may be paid on a different date due to the Christmas holiday period.

Payments may land in people’s accounts early if the claimant’s payment date falls on a bank holiday. The DWP has reminded those expecting payments of the changes and many people could see their money go into their bank account on December 24.

Universal Credit payments due on Christmas Day (Wednesday) will now receive their payment on Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24). Claimants due to receive their payments on New Year’s Day will get paid on New Year’s Eve.

Other benefits, including Child Benefit and Tax Credits, could also be made on a different date. Sir Stephen Timms, minister for social security and disability, said while Christmas is a time of joy for many, the period can be overshadowed by financial worry for others, particularly for families on the lowest incomes, reports Manchester Live.

“Our Plan for Change will deliver the long-term economic stability and growth needed to improve every family’s financial security by putting more money in their pockets while we take immediate action to support them with the cost of living,” he said, “As well as bringing forward benefit payments to continue support over Christmas, our Household Support Fund can also provide extra help, and I encourage anyone struggling to get in touch with their local council to see if they are eligible.”

How often payments are made and on what date depends on the type of benefits. , Universal Credit is paid to claimants on the same day each month. Tax Credits are usually paid by HMRC every four weeks or weekly and Child Benefit is usually every four weeks on a Monday or Tuesday.

People whose payment date is changing won’t need to do anything to ensure they receive it – it will still be sent automatically. After the holiday period the payment date will go back to normal following the last bank holiday.

The amount claimants are paid over the holiday period will remain the same unless people’s personal circumstances have change.
