No students or staff were involved in an attack where four people were sprayed with an “unknown substance” outside the University of Greenwich.
The suspect however is still at large after the attack in Avery Hill Road, just before 12.15am on December 10.
Last week a man was found with head injuries as part of the attack at the Avery Hill campus, and when he was taken to hospital, three other people were also found sprayed with the substance.
None of the victims suffered any life-changing or life-threatening injuries and tests were carried out and it was found that the substance was non-toxic.
The University of Greenwich has now confirmed that neither students nor staff were targeted, after concerns were relayed to the News Shopper about student safety following the attack.
It is understood that the incident stemmed outside the campus on Avery Hill Road before it partially spiralled into the open-space campus site.
Lindsay Roberts, a mother of a 19-year-old daughter who attends the university, said she was “prepared to come and pick her up that day” after hearing the news.
With herself being based further away in Leeds, she said: “I just wanted my daughter home”.
Over a week later, she has been looking for reassurance that students are safe since incident.
She said: “It would’ve been nice to have been told more – is it a random attack, is it targeted?
“And who was attacked, was it a member of staff or student?
“But we have had no idea who it was and we’ve had no reassurance, we are just left wondering.”
A spokesperson for the university has said that students were not injured and safety for everyone on campus is continuing to be a priority.
A University of Greenwich spokesperson said: “Following an incident at our campus last week, we are working closely with police to assist with their enquires. We can confirm that no Greenwich student was harmed in the incident and that our onsite security assisted.
“Keeping our campuses, staff and students safe is a priority. We are continuing to support our community.”
The Metropolitan Police says no arrests have been made at this time.
