Volunteers collect hundreds of food items for charity

Volunteers delivered festive donations to a food charity on their backs as part of a Christmas challenge.

A total of ten staff at Harrow Chiropractic used rucking – walking with a full backpack – to carry many of the 276 items it received for the 30-minute walk from the clinic in Gayton Road to London’s Community Kitchen in Christchurch Avenue.

The community kitchen turns donations into hot meals, gives away fresh produce and teaches people to cook. Harrow Chiropractic raises money for the charity every Christmas, but this year the usual raffle was not enough.

Lead chiropractic assistant Charlotte Tubb said: “In total we donated 276 food items which were gratefully received. We then took the opportunity to have a coffee in The Pantry.”

Ms Tubb hopes to see it become an annual event, saying “everybody that came said they would do it again”.

But with more food donated could be carried, she says they would need to make it “more widely known” to get more volunteers next time.
