Wales only GB nations with fewer home workers since 2019

Wales is the only area in Great Britain to see the number of home workers fall since 2019, according to new data.  The figures from YouGov compared data from July 2019 to July 2024 to see if the increase in home working which happened during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdowns had begun to fade or if some businesses were yet to call their employees back to the office.

In Wales it found that in 2019 17 per cent were working from home and in 2024 that figure was 16 per cent – and fall of one per cent.

But in London the number of people working from home had jumped 15 per cent since 2019.

Wales also saw a fall in the number of people working in a fixed location.

In 2019 the figure was 37 per cent which fell to 26 per cent in 2024 – a fall of 11 per cent.

Workers aged between 25 and 49 saw the largest changes since 2019, with 35 per cent of respondents working from home in 2024, as opposed to 17 per cent in 2019.
