Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’s Jeremy Clarkson left stunned over biggest celebrity win yet

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Celebrity Special host Jeremy Clarkson was left stunned on Sunday’s show.

During the latest episode, Jeremy, 64, welcomed Sir Stephen Fry on the show, who revealed he was earning money for Mind, the mental health charity he’s championed since 2011.

Stephen, 67, scooped an impressive £250,000 on the ITV quiz, once hosted by Chris Tarrant. The former QI mastermind, also known for his acting and comedy, expressed his ‘delight’ over the win while host Jeremy was left stunned over the incredible achievement .

He said: “The biggest celebrity win since I started [on] this show”, dubbing it a “whopping win”, after Sir Stephen chose to pocket the £250,000 rather than risk it all.

Faced with a question about the longest gap between an original song and its cover version, Stephen’s ‘phone a friend’ option Richard Osman couldn’t provide the needed assistance.

Nonetheless, Sir Stephen was overjoyed, saying: “I am delighted and I am not complaining at all” and remarked on how “it was extremely good fun. The time goes so quickly.”

Reflecting on his previous stint on the show in 2005, where he won £125,000 for charity alongside culinary queen Nigella Lawson, Sir Stephen praised Jeremy’s support.

Sir Stephen has announced his intention to donate his prize money to Mind, the mental health charity he’s championed since 2011.

Touched by the organisation’s impact, Sir Stephen remarked: “They have captured the attention of a whole new generation – either as something to support or indeed, to use its facilities and use its guidance on what it has to offer people who are in distress of mind.

“It is deeply worrying so many young people want to hurt themselves, this inner pain they are feeling. Mind is a wonderful resource.”

Known for his comedic brilliance alongside Hugh Laurie in shows like A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Jeeves And Wooster, Sir Stephen Fry was honoured with a knighthood in the recent New Year Honours list for his contributions to mental health awareness, environmental causes, and charity.
