A Wisbech firm has teamed up with a college to produce a series of career videos aimed at inspiring young people when it comes to their job options.
Coveris, a European leader in sustainable packaging based in Cromwell Road, has partnered with Cambridge Regional College to deliver the career profile videos highlighting the many options open to young people when choosing a career path.
These latest videos join the Careers Spotlight series which features professionals talking about what their job entails, their careers, and how they got there. It also encourages young people to consider job roles and industries they may not have previously considered.
The collaboration forms part of a wider project funded by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) delivered through Form the Future and Cambridge Regional College, aimed at enhancing career information, advice, and guidance provision for young people in the region.
The careers profiled from the Wisbech and St Neots bases of Coveris include roles in Manufacturing, logistics, sales, sustainability, packaging development, engineering, operations, and human resources (HR).
Michaela Van-Noordt, Coveris’ paper business unit’s head of HR, said: “Coveris is delighted to be offered the opportunity by Cambridge Regional College to showcase our packaging careers in the local area. As an industry, packaging is often associated with just manufacturing, so this has enabled us to demonstrate the diverse range of opportunities that are available to young people considering a role in a dynamic and growing industry.”
Laura Kerry, the college’s vice principal, said: “The videos highlight the possibilities for young people looking at their career options and shine a spotlight on the day-to-day activities of a variety of roles. We are thrilled that they will be shared with schools and college students.
“Coveris has generously let us film people that work across their company. The result is real-life work stories that will inspire and inform young people to take the first steps on their career path and expose people to the varied roles that exist in our region.”
Cllr Elisa Meschini, chair of the GCP’s executive board, said: “Greater Cambridge is home to a wide variety of career opportunities, and these fantastic videos give a real insight into what jobs are available to young people. Watching and hearing the stories from Coveris about the importance of sustainability is fascinating but equally as interesting is to understand how apprentices contribute to the organisation’s aims and aspirations.
“The Career Spotlight series is a great set of films which help people to understand what the world of work is like. They cover a variety of areas including the construction industry, with one of the video series following our contractor, Milestone, during the delivery of the improvements we’ve made to Milton Road. We remain committed to helping people learn more about the career choices available to them, which can be seen by our recent decision to extend our skills programme beyond 2025.”
The videos will be available for viewing on the college website and Form the Future will be sharing them with school students across the region through their delivery in schools and offer resources on their website.
The Career Spotlights are part of the wider project connecting young people with opportunities which also includes hosting Apprenticeships, Jobs, and Careers Fair in Cambridge, on March 4 between 4pm and 6pm and in Huntingdon, on March 6 from 4pm to 6pm which are open to the public to come and find career opportunities.
The March 4 will also include a Primary Careers Fair, with schools from the local area taking part. Employers from a range of sectors will be present, and employers who can still book exhibition space are set to be attending collectively, from a range of industries and recruiting across many professions, including the Coveris team. Young people currently in school or college or adults looking for a job or career change can book their place for free via the CRC website here: http://www.camre.ac.uk/careersfairs
