It will be a case of roll-up, roll-up for all the fun of the circus this summer when one of the area’s most popular events is held.
Wisbech Town Council, which took over the running of the town’s Rose Fair last year, has announced that this summer’s theme will be the circus.
The Rose Fair is being held on Saturday, June 28, and organisation of the event is already well in hand.
Summer 2024 saw the return of the Rose Fair after five years – it was cancelled in previous years due to Covid, and then due to a fire in a building on Market Place which blocked the parade route.
Attempts to salvage it in 2023 fell flat when the organisers excluded a parade and instead went for a calendar of events organised by community groups, which did not really work.
The Rose Fair, which has been running for over 60 years looked to be in danger of extinction last year until the town council stepped in to take it on, and when it was held at the end of June it proved a massive success.
The newly re-incarnated event saw crowds once again pack the streets to watch the traditional two parades and enjoy a host of events throughout the town centre. There was even a Rose Queen – Ella Stanier.
The only ingredient missing from Rose Fairs past was the amazing flower show in St Peter’s Church, which sadly will not be returning due to a lack of volunteers able to create the impressive floral displays.
Further details of this summer’s Rose Fair will be published in the coming months.
