A WOMAN is in critical condition after a man allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs crashed his car into hers on the A465 yesterday, December 29.
The 29-year-old woman is from Blaenau Gwent and remains in hospital at this time with very serious injuries.
The man, 34, from Swansea, has been arrested for multiple alleged offences following the crash, including causing injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit from drink and drugs, and assaulting an emergency worker.
He was also taken to hospital for treatment before being remanded in custody.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A465 between Tredegar and Merthyr at around 12.40am on Sunday 29 December.
“Officers attended along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
“The collision involved two cars: a black Audi and a silver Vauxhall.
“The driver of the Vauxhall, a 29-year-old woman from Blaenau Gwent, was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
“The driver of the Audi, a 34-year-old man from Swansea, was also taken to hospital for treatment.
“He was later arrested on suspicion of multiple offences including causing injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit from drink and drugs.
“He remains in police custody at this time.”
