A woman walking around the coast of the UK in memory of her wife has reached Pembrokeshire and is celebrating hitting the 1,000 mile mark.
Tracey Howe, 61, began her journey from Glasgow on November 1, aiming to complete a year-long trek around the British mainland coastline in honour of her partner of nearly 40 years, Angela White, who died from cancer.
This week, her boots have passed the 1,000th mile.
On her west Wales itinerary between January 14 and 24, she has passed through Solva, St Brides, Dale and Milford Haven, and will be visiting Pembroke, Rhoscrowther, Castlemartin, and Tenby.
The retired professor aims to raise more than £100,000 for five charities.
She said: “I am absolutely delighted to reach 1,000 miles of my 5,000-mile charity walk this week.
“I have been going now for 75 days, and there have been many highs and some lows, and the winter weather has been challenging at times.”
She added: “I hope that people will continue to follow my progress and donate to the all-important goal of raising many thousands of pounds charity.”
The idea of “Tracey’s Trek” came to her after Ms White’s death.
She said: “When Angela passed away last September aged just 58, she left a horrific gaping hole in my life.
“But I decided I wanted to turn my grief into a positive.”
Ms Howe chose five charities to benefit from her hike: Beatson Cancer Charity, Marie Curie, brainstrust, Breast Cancer Now, and CoppaFeel!.
She shared: “The NHS, The Beatson, and Marie Curie gave our family tremendous support when Angela was diagnosed with cancer.”
The couple had planned to travel around the British coast in a motorhome after retirement.
During her walk, she visits places significant to them as a couple.
She said: “I think about Angela every day and I talk to her while I’m walking, so this is a pilgrimage of sorts.”
Tracey is walking an average of 20 miles daily, six days a week.
Friends, family, and Poppy are accompanying her in a motorhome, and she appeals for people along the route to join her for some of the miles.
