Zara confirms closure of Swansea store as staff redeployed to Cardiff

One of Swansea city centre’s most popular clothing stores has closed just weeks before Christmas, as some of its staff have been redeployed to Cardiff. We previously reported how the shop windows of Zara’s Princess Way store were covered up and its doors shut to shoppers.

The store contributed significantly to the footfall in that area of the city since it has been open, and was considered by many as one of the most popular clothing stores. But the fashion chain has now confirmed that it has closed its location in Swansea following the end of its lease term.

Its last trading day was December 2, and all employees who worked at the store were offered positions at other stores within its business, with some opting to take up roles in Cardiff. For the latest Swansea news, sign up to our newsletter here.

Speculation began building concerning its future back in October, and a petition was launched against the its rumoured closure, which was signed 681 times.

A spokeswoman for Zara said: “We can confirm that the store has closed following the end of the lease term. All employees were offered positions at other stores in the business, with some choosing to work at our stores in Cardiff. The opening of Pull & Bear in Cardiff in November has added 27 new positions to our team in Wales. The last day of trading of the Swansea store was December 2.” Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news. You will receive updates from us daily.
